EPA Report: Fracking Chemicals Found in WY Water

The EPA has released a draft report finding that chemicals used in fracking were present in water supplies near Pavilion, Wyoming.  The report states that although other sources of contamination were examined, “when considered together with other lines of evidence, the data indicates likely impact to ground water that can be explained by hydraulic fracturing.”

As you can imagine, the drilling companies involved disagree with the report.  We will have a better idea of what the actual source of contamination is once the report is subject to peer review and further scrutiny.  It should be noted that the Pavilion site is somewhat unique, in that gas wells are very shallow.
